Lord, make me holy in Your sight

Savior, Redeemer, Word of Life

Sanctify Your truth in me

Make me holy, make me holy

Come separate me to Your ways

All wise, eternal, Ancient of Days

Glorify Your Son in me

Make me holy, make me holy

My life, I give to you, an offering;

The sacrifice that is pleasing to Thee

All joy is mine as Your presence I seek

Make me holy, make me holy

Cleanse now this temple, Your purpose fulfill

Lord, I delight to do Your will

You gave Your life that from sin I’d be free

Make me holy, make me holy!

Before the Light

Posted in Poetry with tags , , , , on October 28, 2012 by Stephen Hare

Lighthouse by the harbor gray;

beacon for those whose craft might stray,

before the light breaks on the shore

before the dawn of day;

before the light breaks on the shore,

and the shadows are no more…

Gift of light for all to see,

ill-fated they would otherwise be,

to find safe harbor on the shore,

to guide their craft at sea;

before the light breaks on the shore,

and the shadows are no more…

Will you as the lighthouse be?

rescuing waywards from the sea?

where violent waves and darkness claim

wealthy, weary, strong and lame;

before the light breaks on the shore

before the final hour…

before the light breaks on the shore,

and the shadows are no more.

In The Light of Eternity – (authors commentary)

Posted in Devotional Corner with tags , , , , , , on October 25, 2012 by Stephen Hare

Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things that we have heard, lest we drift away.” Hebrews 2:1

But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation.” Hebrews 6:9

The only “story” poem I have written to-date, “In The Light of Eternity”, depicts the life of a man, likely past middle-age, who began well in his journey with the Lord, but somewhere over the course of his life, strayed from God’s plan for his life only to find himself many years down the road, alienated from the life of God. We are cautioned by the words of Hebrews 3:11-12, to examine ours hearts on a regular basis, “While it is still called today”, to see if any unbelief has crept in, and to encourage one another so that we do not become “hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”

Jesus’ warning in the “Parable of the Seed-Sower” states that the “thorny ground”, is the cares of this life, the deceitfulness of riches, and the pursuit of pleasures, that choke the word of God and cause it to become unfruitful. James 1:22 tells us, “But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves”.

But how great is the grace and mercy of our God, if we will only repent and turn back to Him! “Come now and let us reason together”, Says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool”. Isaiah 1:18

Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap in mercy. Break up your fallow ground (the hardened, uncultivated areas of your heart); for now it is time to seek the Lord until He comes and rains righteousness upon you.” Hosea 10:12

And how similar is the instruction of Jeremiah 4:3…“Break up your fallow ground, and do not sow among thorns.”?

This daily examination of our hearts, and the surrender of all that does not have its source in God serves to keep the “soil” of the heart well cultivated for God’s use, so that our lives may yield fruit for God’s kingdom purposes.

Have you ever thought of yourself as adrift without any certain course in life, lonely in a crowded room, or alienated from the life of God? He has a “Master plan” for your life, but you’ll need to seek Him to find it out.

The word of God been sown in your heart, are there any thorns choking it out? What is the condition of the soil? Have broken up your “fallow ground”?

Seek the Lord while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts;

Let him return to the Lord and He will have mercy on him,

and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” Isaiah 55:6,7

Finding Peace

Posted in Poetry with tags , , , , , on October 22, 2012 by Stephen Hare

Oh living God, where shall I go

to find the peace that You bestow?

Among the world with all its care?

No, … surely I’ve not found it there

But in Your will alone I find,

the peace that guards my heart and mind,

That calms the storms and raging seas,

that often rise to frighten me.

Oh Lord, to trust in You alone,

not in myself or things I own

Beside still waters where You lead

is where I’ll follow, live and breathe

Through every trial and fiery test,

in You alone I find my rest;

In You alone my worries cease;

in You alone I find my peace.

Now Lord, my heart will stray no more,

that I may see that final shore

and stand at last in victory

with You upon that crystal sea…

Oh Death where is your sting for me?

Oh grave where is your victory?

In Christ alone my worries cease, in Him alone I find my peace

In You alone my worries cease – in You alone I find my peace.

Leather drawn, worn and dry;

cracks beneath the surface lie

Skin stretched tight, weathered and old,

new wine the old skin cannot hold

Lest bursting open the nectar waste,

and never a soul its sweetness taste

Mingled with dirt, its purity soiled

worthless now, having been thus spoiled

Gradual is the conformation

but seamless the bond of flesh and sin;

Here, only death can be the answer,

that new life may then begin

Entrance at the narrow gate

flesh and blood will never gain;

Old for new we must exchange

that His Spirit might remain

The Mask

Posted in Poetry with tags , , , on October 18, 2012 by Stephen Hare

If  I could not the person be

That would my inner corruption change;

Life to me would be a stage,

And behind my mask I would remain…

Do you suppose that Halloween is the only day of the year that people wear masks?

The Garden of My Dreams

Posted in Poetry with tags , , , , on October 17, 2012 by Stephen Hare

Time well-spent as I attend

the garden of my dreams;

weeds of doubt, I pull them out,

no matter how small they seem

For if left alone they’d soon mature,

blossoming into fear;

the Vine that grows and coils to choke

my vision… once so clear

Time well-spent as I still toil

to keep my garden free

from stones of unbelief, or roots of bitterness,

or any such debris

The passing years by patience prove

by grace alone who I shall be;

the fruit I’ve grown from seeds I’ve sown
