This poem truly blessed me, and I know it will be to all my readers as well. May the Lord send this far and wide for His glory in the church!

Silent sway, my mind must stay
Aloft on Your great Fountain
Awakened deep within my soul
I climb, but a wispy mountain

A Word, a Thought
You count them not
As if accumulation completes
What Your spoken Word repeats

A gate wide open
A Holy Human Token
Aloud an “Abba Father”
What credit to me?
None can I see

A redirected periphial skew
A sight given beyond my view
Hold me there! In the sight of You!
Son of every beholding!

Drops of blood, clearly mark
The way to which, this heart must go
Walking, walking – no surface impeding
Water flows, from His eyes, His side, to cushion His feet
Tears clean what fresh water doesn’t dare
Each rung, You hang, and hold me fair

No looking down! A mighty fall
Back to my own perceiving
Afloat on You, and the very air You’re breathing
Circumsized eyes can see…

Treasure in the Field

Image

Resplendent with the light of God

Are those whose feet tread hallowed sod

To bring good news to those in sin

For whom the Son of God has died

Light not seen by all who gaze,

Nor those who’d wander all their days

But those whose hearts turn toward the Son:

The blind who by faith see

Beauty beyond the depth of skin

Intangible, yet felt within

Mystery of divine origin

Ageless as the gift of grace

Unseen by the natural eye

Nor yet views the passerby

The light in vain men would deny

Once the veil God should remove

As sun reflects upon the deep

So God’s Spirit on those who keep

All His ways from dawn till sleep

Arrests those called to bear

His light to those who in darkness wait

Who long have dwelt outside the gate

Helpless to avert their fate

Blind till with their hearts they see

The Son of Righteousness arise

Removing scales from their eyes

Cords of sin His power unties

Realm of darkness the more decreased

The measure hidden in the meal

In His time God will reveal

His glory in those who bear His seal

His treasure in the field…

Desert Place

desert place 3

Oh Lord, when will You come?

When will you answer me?

And when You come,

what will You find in my heart?

For this heart has been to me – an enemy…

Oh Lord, unite my heart to fear Your name!

Create in me a clean heart O God

And renew a steadfast spirit within;

for Your glory and Your honor

for Your glory O Lord

O Lord, how did I come

To this desert place?

How did my eyes not see

The path that brought me here?

How I long now for your word; Your Spirit’s voice to me

Only speak and these dry bones will live again!

Create in me a clean heart O God

And renew a steadfast spirit within

For Your glory and Your honor

For Your glory O Lord

From Light to Darkness?

Posted in Devotional Corner with tags , , on February 12, 2013 by Stephen Hare

“When the light is too bright, we cannot see.”

 Malcom Muggeridge

Light to Darkness

Most of us can recall what it is like when we’ve had a good night’s sleep, and then having made our way to the bathroom, turning on the light. We find it difficult for the first moments to see properly, and the sensation that the light brings to our senses can properly be described as “unpleasant”. Right?

Jesus taught, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. Therefore, if the light within you has turned into darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Mt 6:22-23)

When a man is not accustomed to the light, when suddenly exposed to it, his ability to see is obscured. He is able to recognize the light for what it is, – especially being that it is foreign to the darkness to which he is more accustomed and well-adapted; but is at first unable to discern anything beyond the contrasting brightness.

So it is with the one to whom God reveals Himself.

The religious leaders of Jesus day had indeed received the light of God’s word, in that it was the written revelation of God (given by Moses, God’s mediator) to His chosen people. But when the Word became flesh and dwelt among them, the light was so bright – they couldn’t see.

Jesus explained to his disciples, “For whoever has, to him more will be given and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.”       (Mt 13:12)

We see in John 9:39-41

And Jesus said, “I came into this world for judgment, so that those who do not see may see, and those who “see” may become blind”. And some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words and said to Him, “We aren’t blind too, are we?”

Jesus said to them, “If you were “blind” you would not have sin. But now you say, “We see”, so you sin remains.”

Jesus warns us,   “Therefore, be careful that the light in you isn’t darkness.” (Lk 11:34)

To claim personal understanding of who He is, and then not live in a way that is consistent with that knowledge is in itself an admission that we have not understood what we have professed. In other words; light that permits darkness to remain in its presence is not light, but darkness by another name. True light (by any name) is not compatible with darkness.

This is why John writes, “If we claim that we have fellowship with Him while walking in the darkness, we are lying and not living the truth.” (1 John 1:6 WNPT)

“As long as you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.”   (John 12:36a)

The Point:  God’s penetrating light can at first be uncomfortable and offensive to our senses, and we can either be offended by what His light reveals about us, or we can continue “in the light” and become accustomed to His presence and the cleansing that He alone can provide.

Christ will be to us either a stepping-stone, or a stumbling-stone. What is He to you?

Prayer:

Lord, help us today to see You as You are, and to truly see who You are; and in the “seeing” that we may be changed. Let us not be offended by what Your word reveals in us, but let us come to the light that all of our deeds may be seen to have been wrought in You.

Reflections From “Living in The Glass”

Psalm 27

The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (x2)

Light and Salvation

Hear O Lord, when I cry with my voice –

Have mercy on me and answer me!

When You said “Seek My face”,

My heart said to You

Your face, O Lord will I seek

Your face, O Lord will I seek

One thing have I desired of the Lord, and that I will seek;

That I may dwell in the house of the Lord, all the days of my life.

One thing have I desired of the Lord, and that I will seek;

That I may dwell in Your house, O Lord

To behold the beauty of the Lord

And to inquire in His temple

For in the time of trouble, He will hide me

In the secret place of His tabernacle

He will hide me – and He will set me high upon a rock

Yes, He will hide me – and He will set me high upon a rock!

Hear O Lord, when I cry with my voice –

Have mercy on me and answer me!

When You said “Seek My face”,

My heart said to You

Your face, O Lord will I seek

Your face, O Lord will I seek
